The Warren Weaver Lectureship

On the anniversary of their 50th year of graduation from the MCV School of Pharmacy, the Class of 1956 created a permanent endowment in honor of Dean Emeritus Warren E. Weaver to support a lecture series focused on patient centered pharmacy.  The lecture is open to both students and alumni.

Warren Eldred Weaver already had a national reputation in medicinal chemistry when he was hired as associate professor in the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy in 1950.

Six years later, when he became dean of the pharmacy school, he already had helped organize a master’s degree program and served as chairman of the department of chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry.

Under his leadership, the MCV School of Pharmacy established a doctoral program, awarding the first degree in 1958. As graduates began to make good in their jobs, the school began to establish a reputation.

In 1976, a post-baccalaureate doctor of pharmacy program was established, which led to the doctor of pharmacy degree becoming the entry degree for all pharmacy students.
