An extraordinary visionary and philanthropist, the late E. Claiborne Robins transformed his family’s small apothecary into the multi-million dollar pharmaceutical enterprise. A 1933 MCV pharmacy graduate, E. Claiborne Robins and his late wife, Lora, endowed a distinguished professorship in 1987 to ensure excellence in pharmacy education and innovation in pharmaceutical research. Long after his death, Robins’ legacy lives on through Professor Douglas Sweet.   Named the E. Claiborne Robins’ distinguished professor in 2016, Dr. Sweet serves as the Chairman of the Department of Pharmaceutics.   The Robins Professorship supports his dynamic research enterprise which focuses on the proteins responsible for the transport of organic solutes in renal proximal tubule, choroid plexus, and brain capillary endothelium.
