H.J. and Dot Hubbard Scholarship

In 2017, Terri Hubbard Powers (P '78) and her husband, Tom, created the H.J. and Dot Hubbard Scholarship in honor and recognition of the hard work and sacrifice to send all four of their children to college.

“I established this scholarship to honor my parents, H. J and Dot Hubbard, and to provide funds to pharmacy students with financial needs,” writes Terri. “I owe a lot of my success to my parents. Education was important to them. They grew up during the Depression, and were concerned about being able to educate four children (three in diapers at one time, due to a set of twins).

“My mother began cooking and selling the large Virginia peanuts grown on my grandfather’s farm. She was a trailblazer in popularizing a unique technique and recipe for the Virginia peanut that has become the industry standard we know today. Together, she and Dad built Hubs Peanuts, the first peanut company producing the large Virginia-type peanut. More than 65 years later, Hubs Peanuts is still owned by the Hubbard family.

“I grew up watching my parents give back to others, to their community, and to us. I am humbled by how much better my life has been because of my parents’ sacrifices. I want to honor them and give back to a school and a profession that have done so much for me.”
