The M. Bruce Rose Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to assist fourth year pharmacy students (P4) from the geographic region served by the 4th District Pharmaceutical Association.

The scholarship was endowed with gifts from the membership of the 4th District Pharmaceutical Association in memory of M. Bruce Rose.

M. Bruce Rose, Sr. died on March 31, 1985, at age 73. He is remembered as “a respected fellow-pharmacist, successful businessman, loyal VPhA supporter, civic leader and good friend.”

A 1931 graduate of the School of Pharmacy, Bruce worked briefly in Roanoke before settling in Petersburg, where he lived throughout most of his career in pharmacy and business. His many friends in pharmacy throughout Virginia remember him as a regular attendee at the VPhA conventions and a strong supporter of association endeavors. A VPhA Life Member, he was a generous contributor to the VPhA Building Fund when the association acquired its own headquarters building in 1968 and to the campaign for the new Robert Blackwell Smith, Jr. Pharmacy Building at MCV. He was also a member of the MCV Alumni Association, the American Pharmaceutical Association, the National Association of Retail Druggists and the Fourth District Pharmaceutical Association. P4 students are eligible to receive this nonrenewable scholarship.

This scholarship is presented annually to a student who demonstrates scholastic ability and financial need. Preference shall be given to applicants from the Virginia Pharmacists Association Fouth District (i.e., the counties of Dinwiddie, Prince George, Surry, Sussex and the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg).
